§ 12.6-1. Policy.

That persons in this parish who seek a place to live should be able to find such housing whenever it is available. All persons should be able to compete for available housing on an open, fair, and equitable basis, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin.

There is a legitimate governmental interest in protecting the welfare of the people of Jefferson Parish by enacting an equal housing opportunity act to discourage discriminatory housing practices.
