§ 13-10. Fire safety requirements when four or more temporary housing units are located on the same property.

  • (a)

    Temporary housing units shall be defined as manufactured homes, mobile homes, travel trailers and/or trailers when used for Hurricane Katrina displaced businesses, workers or residents.

    (b)

    Temporary housing units shall be set back a minimum ten (10) feet from any side or back lot line.

    (c)

    There shall be a minimum distance of fifteen (15) feet between temporary housing units and any existing structures.

    (d)

    There shall be a minimum distance of fifteen (15) feet between individual temporary housing units.

    (e)

    Emergency vehicle access (roadways) shall be provided as such that all temporary housing units are within fifty (50) feet of a roadway.

    (f)

    Emergency vehicle access (roadways) for temporary housing units shall be at least twenty-four (24) feet in width.

    (g)

    Emergency vehicle turnaround, at least seventy-six (76) feet in diameter, shall be provided on all emergency vehicle access (roadways) with a dead end distance that exceeds six hundred (600) feet.

    (h)

    Off street parking shall be provided for each temporary housing unit.

    (i)

    Temporary housing units shall be located within two hundred (200) feet of a fire hydrant.

    (j)

    Temporary housing units must have working smoke detectors.

    (k)

    Temporary housing units that are equipped with open flame heating devices must have working carbon monoxide detectors.

    (l)

    Temporary housing units shall be maintained and operated in a manner as to not create an unreasonable fire risk.

    (m)

    Once the temporary housing units have been place on the property, a proper address listing should be affixed and displayed according to address guidelines of Jefferson Parish and the local fire department must be notified.

    (n)

    Parish council may by resolution adopt and approve all rules, regulations and guidelines for the implementation of this ordinance.
