§ 1-11. Civil enforcement.

  • (a)

    In addition to, or as an alternative to, the penalties provided for in section 1-10, the provisions of this Code may be enforced by appropriate civil proceedings in any court of competent jurisdiction. For purposes of this code, a court of competent jurisdiction shall include the bureau of administrative adjudication.

    (b)

    The parish may cause any and all utilities (whether publicly or privately owned) to be shut off and services discontinued and may cause the building or property to be vacated or closed pursuant to section 27-181.

    (c)

    Any person or entity found to be a repeat offender pursuant to the provisions of this Code may be fined a maximum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per violation, along with any other applicable fines or fees, and may be subject to the parish contractor remediating the violation at the cost of the owner, tenant or representative at the discretion of the trier of fact.

    (d)

    Any person or entity found to be in violation of the provisions of chapter 4, "Alcoholic Beverages"; chapter 17, article V, division 4-1, "Tobacco Dealer Permits"; chapter 17.5, "Lodging Accommodations", chapter 38, "Vehicles for Hire"; or of any other provision in the Jefferson Parish Code of Ordinances which regulates a conduct or practice which requires the issuance by the parish of license in order to be conducted or practiced; shall be subject to the penalties prescribed within the applicable provisions, including any fines as set forth therein. Such penalties may be imposed in addition to, or as an alternative to, the penalties provided for in section 1-10.
