§ 25-166. Wetland permitting.

Latest version.
  • Most of the large unused portion of land on the West Bank is defined as wetlands, development of which requires permitting by the Corps of Engineers. Jefferson Parish is in the process of applying for a master 404-wetland permit for the majority of the area south of Lapalco, between the Harvey Canal and the City of Westwego, inside the hurricane protection levee system. This permit is based on the Barataria Corridor Land Use Study. Issuance of the master 404 wetland permit will require Jefferson Parish to implement a large-scale master mitigation program to make up for the wetlands lost to development covered by the master 404 wetland permit. Wetlands outside the existing levee system will be difficult to permit and should not be planned for development.
