§ 25-350. Results.

Latest version.
  • Based on the composite of the interactive sessions, survey data (both quantitative and qualitative), the primary issues and concerns identified by the community through the planning district process focused on the following points, as assigned to the various modes of transportation:

    (a)

    Roadways .

    • Lack of alternatives - limited number of east-west and north-south connectors in the parish;

    • Presence of natural or manmade barriers (canals, structures, wetlands, etc.) to connecting areas;

    • Heavy congestion on all major roadway corridors;

    • Incomplete roads which connect to nowhere and should be finished;

    • Perceived lack of enforcement of traffic regulations (speed limits, school zones, stop signs);

    • Poor aesthetics along roadway corridors;

    • Lack of planning for the future (right-of-way for future use, coordination with land use).

    (b)

    Public transit .

    • Lack of public information (schedule, services offered, routes, and stop locations) on system services;

    • Inadequate service to some areas of the parish.

    (c)

    Pedestrian/bicycle .

    •  Inconsistency in condition and connectivity of sidewalks in the parish;

    • Dedicated bike facilities appreciated - need to connect to core neighborhood areas;

    • Presence of natural or manmade barriers (canals, structures, wetlands, etc.) to connecting areas;

    • Question of safety for cyclists and pedestrians in high traffic, heavily developed areas.

    (d)

    Ports/maritime .

    • Lack of access to Lake Pontchartrain recreation areas from adjacent neighborhood areas;

    • Increased traffic volumes from proposed Millennium Port will have to pass through the parish - will increase congestion on certain access corridors.

    (e)

    Airport . The airport had no comments or issues identified as part of the planning district meeting process.

    (f)

    Railroads .

    • Better enforcement/monitoring of train blockage required, time required for trains to clear crossings excessive;

    • Impacts associated with trains in residential areas need to be addressed.
