§ 25-363. Public transportation.

Latest version.
  • The proposal for the parish's future mass transit system contains two (2) distinct work programs. Each works to address the main summary points identified through the public process:

    • Identify transit improvements which make stops and waiting areas more visible to transit users;

    • Improve connectivity of transit as an option for mobility to the general public.

    The Transit Mode Map identifies those major transit projects and initiatives that the Parish should consider for implementation over the next twenty (20) years as a result of the Future Land Use Element.

    The work programs for transit consist of:

    •  Future facilities - defined by the future land use plan's emphasis on utilizing transit opportunities in connection within developed and developing areas of the parish. This program emphasizes expansion of park-and-ride facilities, development of passenger terminals at high demand stops and in conjunction with proposed light rail project and at community facilities with under utilized parking;

    •  Fixed-route network opportunities - defined as links, which need to be examined for feasibility due to forecast changes in travel demand due to the Future Land Use Element. These support the proposed facilities offering links to other portions of the parish or region.

    The Transit Mode Table: Transit Opportunities/Future Facilities identifies general requirements and coordination issues which need to be placed into future planning and engineering studies to determine final designs, costs, benefits, and implementation schedules.
