§ 2-772. Composition.

  • (a) The parish council hereby appoints the following members to the criminal justice coordinating council:

    Parish president; council member at-large, Division A, parish council; council member at-large, Division B, parish council; sheriff; clerk of court; district attorney; Twenty-Fourth Judicial District Court, chief judge; chief judge, parish juvenile court; one (1) judge of parish courts to be selected by first and second parish courts; one (1) justice of the peace to be selected on an annual basis by all justices of the peace in the parish; chairman of the indigent defender board; Chief of Police, City of Gretna; Chief of Police, City of Kenner; Chief of Police, City of Harahan, and Chief of Police of the City of Westwego; one (1) constable to be selected on an annual basis by all constables in the parish; the executive director of the Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority and the superintendent of the Jefferson Parish School System; and the Jefferson Parish Coroner, or their designees. The terms of the public officials shall expire upon their termination of office.

    (b)

    The parish council shall appoint other members so that its membership shall be broadly representative of the general public, and community-based and professional organizations.

    (c)

    The criminal justice coordinating council shall consist of twenty-five (25) members and of the twenty-five (25) members, one (1) member shall be appointed from the unincorporated area of each council district by the parish council.
