§ 2-875.49. Board.

  • (a)

    Creation . The board shall be composed of nine (9) members, all of whom shall be qualified voters of the parish and at least seven (7) of whom shall have their principal place of business in, their principal domicile in, or own property in, the district. Such members shall possess additional qualifications and shall be appointed as follows:

    (1)

    One (1) of the members shall be appointed by the parish president.

    (2)

    One (1) of the members shall be appointed by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff.

    (3)

    Two (2) of the members shall be appointed by the at-large members of the parish council, whereby each at-large councilperson shall appoint one member.

    (4)

    Three (3) of the members shall be appointed by the District five councilperson.

    (5)

    One (1) member shall be appointed by the state senator representing the area or a majority of the area of the district.

    (6)

    One (1) member shall be appointed by the state representative representing the area or a majority of the area of the district.

    (7)

    The members of the board initially appointed shall be appointed as follows: three (3) members for two (2) years each, three (3) members for three (3) years each, and three (3) members for four (4) years each, the length of the term for each individual appointed to be determined by lot. They shall serve until their successors have been appointed and qualified.

    (8)

    The members of the board thereafter appointed, upon the expiration of the respective terms of the initial appointees, shall be selected and appointed in accordance with the procedures herein prescribed for the selection and appointment of the original members for the term of five (5) years. Any vacancy which occurs prior to the expiration of the term for which a member of the board has been appointed shall be filled in accordance with the procedures as set forth herein.

    (9)

    All members, except two (2) of the members appointed by the District 5 councilperson, shall have their principal place of business in, their principal domicile in, or own property in the district.
