§ 32-11. Permit required.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Except as otherwise provided in this Code, no person shall erect, construct, enlarge, move, alter or convert any sign, or cause same to be done, without first obtaining a sign permit for each such sign from the department of inspection and code enforcement.

    (b)

Any sign permit issued by the department of inspection and code enforcement shall become null and void if the installation of the sign is not commenced within one hundred eighty (180) days from the date of the issuance of the permit. If work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned for one hundred twenty (120) days any time after the work is commenced, a new permit shall be first obtained to do so. Such permit may not be unreasonably withheld providing that proper application and payment of permit fees has been complied with and there have been no changes in the original plans or the applicable zoning regulations.

    (c)

The provisions of this section shall not be construed to require any permit for the cleaning and other normal maintenance or repair of a sign or sign structure for which a permit has been previously issued, so long as the sign or sign structure is not modified in any way. No new permit is required for signs which have permits or which conform with the requirements of the Code on the date of its adoption, unless and until the sign is altered or relocated.
