§ 35.5-64. Telephone alarm systems; prohibition, penalty.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to use, or cause to be used, install, operate, adjust, program or otherwise maintain a telephonic alarm system which automatically or mechanically transmits a signal, message or warning to any Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office telephone lines. All signals, messages or warnings that are automatically transmitted to the Jefferson Parish Emergency Operation Center and approved by the Jefferson Parish Fire and Emergency Services Department and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office shall be excluded from the prohibitions and penalties of this section.

    (b)

    For the purpose of this section, "telephonic alarm system" shall mean any mechanism, equipment or device which is designed to operate automatically through the use of public telephone facilities to transmit a signal, message or warning to another location.

    (c)

    Any person violating the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction thereof, by a court of law, be punished by a fine of not less than twenty dollars ($20.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) or by imprisonment of not less than thirty (30) days, nor more than ninety (90) days and/or both. This section shall not apply to any public utility furnishing facilities, lines or equipment under tariffs on file with regulatory agencies.
