§ 36-50. Playground zones.

  • (a)

    The department of public works, traffic engineering division, is hereby authorized to install uniform playground signs adjacent to those areas designated as an area of public recreation.

    (b)

    Whenever such authorized signs are erected the signed area shall be deemed to be an official playground area.

    (c)

    Notwithstanding any existing speed regulations in this playground area, no person shall drive a vehicle in such a playground zone, at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing. In every event speed shall be so controlled as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person, vehicle or other conveyance on or entering the roadway.

    (d)

    At those playground areas having legally installed playground zone signs, the posted school zone speed limit shall be in effect at all times.

    (e)

    Any person who violates any provision of this section shall be punished as set forth in section 1-10 of this Code.
