§ 37-18. Damage to, or removal of, any tree or other vegetation on public property.

  • Except as otherwise provided in this article, it shall be unlawful for a person or contractor to perform any of the following acts regarding trees or other vegetation on or in public property:

    (1)

    Cut, trim, prune, break, climb or walk upon, injure, or remove any tree or other vegetation;

    (2)

    Cut, disturb or interfere in any way with the roots of any tree, shrub, or plant;

    (3)

    Spray any tree, shrub, or plant with any chemical, insecticide or other oil;

    (4)

    Whitewash any tree or shrub;

    (5)

    Place any decorations, wire, rope, sign, poster, barricade, or other fixture on a tree, tree guard, shrub or shrub guard or on any vegetation;

    (6)

    Injure, misuse or remove any device placed to protect any tree or other vegetation;

    (7)

    Pile building material or any other material about any tree or other vegetation in any manner that will in any way injure the tree or vegetation;

    (8)

    Dump, pour or spill any oil, salt or salt water or other substance upon any tree or tree space or vegetation in any street, or keep or maintain upon any street any receptacle from which oil or salt water leaks or drips, or pour oil or salt water onto any parking or concrete gutter so as to injure any trees or other vegetation;

    (9)

    Pave or place gravel or other such material beneath the canopy within twenty-four (24) inches of any tree or shrub or on other vegetation, unless approved by the parish department of parkway;

    (10)

    Place any stationary or mobile sign, streamer, poster, bill or other advertisement on any tree or other vegetation.
