§ 40-132. Tree preservation.

  • All development shall, to the greatest extent possible, include the preservation of all trees larger than eight (8) inches in diameter as measured at a point four and one-half (4.5) feet above the ground and determined to be a significant tree by the Jefferson Parish Department of Parkways:

    (1)

    Prior to the clearance of the site, applicants for building permits shall provide a tree survey on a site plan showing where significant trees are located.

    (2)

    The location of the trees to be preserved shall be incorporated in the design of the parking lot and building layout of the development.

    (3)

    All significant trees requiring removal shall be replaced by the planting of at least two (2) trees of a similar species. The replacement trees shall be in addition to all other landscaping requirements.

    (4)

    During construction, the significant trees shall be protected by a fence at the drip line of the tree or at a distance of ten (10) feet from the trunk, whichever is greater, and using accepted tree protection techniques.
