§ 20-47. Skateboarding in veterans memorial square prohibited.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in skateboarding or ride upon, or propel any skateboard in Veterans Memorial Square.

    (b)

    Definitions. For purposes of this article, the following definitions are applicable:

    (1)

    Skateboard. A vehicle propelled by human power and gravity consisting of material or portion material formed into a thin firm sheet with wheels attached to the underside.

    (2)

    Veterans Memorial Square. The portion of neutral ground on the east bank of Jefferson Parish bounded by Causeway Boulevard on the east, Purple Heart Loop (formerly the Athania turn-a-round) on the west, the east bound Veterans Boulevard roadway on the south and the west bound Veterans Boulevard roadway on the north.

    (c)

    Violations and penalties. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be subject to the following penalties:

    (1)

    The skateboard used in violating the provisions of this section shall be impounded by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days; and

    (2)

    Sentenced to pay a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00).

    (d)

    Destruction or forfeiture of property.

    (1)

    Any person who has his/her skateboard impounded for violating this section shall be responsible for retrieving the skateboard after the period of time for impounding has expired. Any items impounded under this section will only be released to the owner, or in the case of a minor, to his/her parents, guardian or person having legal custody. Any item impounded shall be retrieved at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Property and Evidence, 1801 West Bank Expressway, Harvey, unless otherwise notified by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

    (2)

    Any skateboard impounded under this section unclaimed for a period of one hundred twenty (120) days from the date of impounding may be discarded or destroyed.
