§ 31-3. Rules and regulations of prison physicians.

  • The following rules and regulations governing the physicians of the parish prison be and the same are hereby adopted:

    (1)

    Each doctor must physically present himself on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the morning hours of each week to conduct "sick call" at the parish prison;

    (2)

    Each doctor must ascertain which inmates seek medical attention by reviewing the medical book and/or medical slips provided for use by inmates of the parish prison;

    (3)

    Doctors will make themselves available for answering emergency treatment when necessary at the parish prison at times other than their regular "sick call";

    (4)

    Doctors must perform routine medical examinations of prisoners when necessary at the parish prison; however, any major emergency will be treated at Charity Hospital in New Orleans;

    (5)

    On days when the doctors are unable to be present, they must provide a substitute;

    (6)

    The warden of the parish prison is to immediately notify the parish council when such doctors fail to comply with this section.
