§ 38-25. VFH inspections and identification requirements.

  • (a)

    All vehicles-for-hire shall bear a valid inspection sticker issued by the state, commonly known as a brake tag.

    (b)

    All vehicles-for-hire must be in good visual and operating condition and must be able to continue safe operation.

    (c)

    If at any time a VFH is deemed to be unsafe, hazardous, or in below-standard physical condition, PMZ or the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has the authority to place said VFH out of service until such time when:

    (1)

    A state-certified mechanic or garage has corrected the unsafe or hazardous conditions and completed a safety inspection; or

    (2)

    The physical condition of the VFH has been corrected.

    (d)

    Each company/driver exclusively accepting trips that are paid for from a membership/account with the company, exclusively accepting trips that are prearranged via telephone or digital communication, or exclusively accepting trips that are pre-paid in full shall display consistent and distinctive signage at all times while engaged in VFH services.

    (1)

    Acceptable forms of distinctive signage include but are not limited to: symbols or signs on vehicle doors, roofs, windshields, or grills.

    (2)

    Magnetic or other removable signage is acceptable.

    (3)

    Distinctive signage shall be sufficiently large and color-contrasted so that it is legible during daylight hours at a distance of at least fifty (50) feet; and said signage shall also be reflective, illuminated, or otherwise patently-visible so as to be sufficiently seen at all times from a distance of at least fifty (50) feet.

    (e)

    Each company or driver not meeting the VFH requirements, as delineated in [above], shall bear on each side of all company vehicles: the company name in characters not less than two (2) inches in height and one-half (1/2) inch in vertical strokes; and

    (f)

    No company or VFH shall be permitted to imitate another company's color scheme, identifying design, monogram, or insignia in such a manner as would tend to mislead or deceive the public.
